These Strawberry Milkshake Cookies are easy to make thanks to a secret shortcut– strawberry cake mix. Plus they’re cute and festive for Valentine’s Day or any pink party!
Well, it’s almost Valentine’s Day and that means stores are filling up with pink and red, hearts and kisses. And while that may make me want to barf, I do appreciate some fun and festive food!
I rarely eat fast food. And I REALLY rarely eat McDonald’s. Maybe a couple times a year? But when I do… it’s all about the strawberry milkshake.
I don’t care about the fries, I don’t care about the nugs. My sweet tooth gets the best of me and I beeline it for some berrylicious heaven.
These cookies. They are different. For one thing, they are bright pink. It may be a little concerning to some, but I’ll take it in the name of holiday spirit. These cookies are also super dee duper sweet! But guess what they taste like?
A STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE!!
I wasn’t sure how these would be, but I ended up loving them! In moderation, of course, as to avoid the definite resulting sugar high. They are especially awesome with an ice cold glass of milk.
The cookies are also really easy thanks to a nice shortcut– using boxed cake mix! If you’re looking for something cute for Valentine’s Day, or just something different than your average chocolate chip, you’ve definitely got to try these!
Whether you’ll be smooching your sweetie or trash-talking boys with your girlfriends, be sure to enjoy the holiday with some pink, red and CHOCOLATE! XOXO!
Adapted from Raining Hot Coupons.
- 1 box strawberry cake mix
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine all ingredients except the chocolate chips in a bowl and mix with an electric mixer until combined. Fold in chocolate chips by hand.
- Drop round (about 1 tablespoon) balls onto baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes exactly. (Any longer and they will start browning-- not as pretty!)
- Cool a couple minutes on the pan and then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

My husband loves the strawberry milkshakes from Whataburger! These would be great to include in a care packages. I’m not sure how we’ll they’d hold up, but I also don’t think he’d mind if they were just crumbs. Haha!
They’re actually pretty sturdy… and they stayed moist for almost a week (maybe longer if we hadn’t eaten them all by then!)… I think the cake mix helps them stay moist.
These are gorgeous! I bet they taste amazing as well!
Mmm I love this strawberry milkshake in cookie form. And I love your blog name 🙂
How many cookie would this make?
About 2 dozen!

does the ingredients depend on what cake mix you use??
You should be able to use any brand of cake mix– Pillsbury, Duncan Heinz, etc. As long as it is the regular-sized box and not a Costco size or something like that!

I made the strawberry milkshake cookies over the weekend. The batter was very very very sticky. I thought they were too sweet for my tasting.
They are definitely super sweet cookies… if you’ve ever baked the strawberry cake, it is very sweet… as is white chocolate! I’m not sure why the batter was so sticky! I didn’t have any trouble handling it!
This might me a stupid question but am I also supposed to add the ingrediants the box says.?
Nope… just the mix!
This is stupid , but do you also add the ingredients from the the directions on the box too?
No, do not add the box ingredients… just the mix!
Just made a batch today and batter is definitely way too sticky to handle by hand
Mine turned out too sticky also. I think my problem was I bought a cake mix with pudding in it. That’s the only reason I can come up with.

Just made these for a baby shower…. She is having a girl so it is a pink theme!. These are perfect!
Awww yay!! Glad you liked them!
may i use butter or olive oil instead of vegetable oil? and if so, how much of either one?
Hi Camille, olive oil should work (same amount) though it may change the flavor (use a very light olive oil). I’m not sure how melted butter would translate, but it’s worth a try! Let me know how they turn out if you try it!
I just made these and they were great! I had to bake them a bit longer, though. Perhaps my oven is not as hot as yours. We can’t get strawberry cake mix here (Quebec, Canada) so I had to get my husband to bring some home from Florida on his last trip!
Hooray! Glad you liked them!
I have never EVER written on someone else’s blog before, but these cookies are so amazing. My daughter originally found this recipe because we were doing a cookie’s and milk 2nd birthday party for my granddaughter. We made 24 different cookies and these were the first ones all gone! My youngest daughter’s boyfriend loved them so much he requested I make them for him for his birthday, instead of a cake! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Oh yay! I am so glad you enjoyed them!! They are always a HUGE hit whenever I make them! I love how unique they are. 🙂
how far ahead can we make these?
A couple days would be fine, after that they will start drying out. They are very moist from the cake mix when you first make them!

Ah, a girl after my own heart! LOL

Did parts of the top of these brown for anybody? They don’t look horrible but they aren’t totally pink and white like the pic. Just wondering if that’s normal as I don’t see the same in the pic :-/ I know I didn’t over cook them as after 7 or 8 min they started to brown.
I made these for a 1st grade Valentine’s Party. They were very pretty with delicious flavor but the batter was super sticky!!
Why do you add additional baking powder?

Do these cookies hold up in the freezer? Thanks!
Yes, they freeze very well!
How big of a box (how many grams) cake mix did you use? our cookies spread a lot and it seemed like there wasn’t enough powder in them?
My daughter loves these! She request them every year for her birthday treat for school! We have even substituted chocolate cake better to make they a chocolate milkshake! The only problem I had was the dough is always so sticky! But still taste awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Hi!! I just made these (the batter is cooling in the fridge) but I noticed they’re way darker than the end result shown in the picture?? Is that normal or have I done something wrong?
It probably just depends on the brand of cake batter… different brands may use different amounts or types of food coloring.
I’m not much of a baker, but these cookies look delicious. So I’m going to attempt to make these on my YouTube channel Hope they look as pretty and taste good. LOL thank you for sharing ?
