Oh, hi! How’s your summer going? Ours has been busy, busy, busy… if you hadn’t guessed. The hubs was gone for a while for work stuff, so it was just me and the little nugget holding down the fort. We took the opportunity to head to the East coast to visit family and friends, and spent two lovely weeks on Cape Cod.

I was pretty much expecting flying with a baby to be a complete train wreck, but guess what? It wasn’t that bad! We had two 3.5+ hour flights each way, with a too-long 3+ hour layover in between. That long a travel day makes me cranky, so I was sort of expecting the worst from the baby. But on the way out there, she hardly cried or even fussed at all. Surprisingly she didn’t sleep that much either, but just sort of looked around at everything and chilled.

On the way home, she was definitely a little crankier. Our second flight fell right at bedtime, which was a mistake I won’t make again. I thought maybe she’d just sleep through it, but every intercom announcement and other loud noise would jolt her awake and she finally gave up trying to sleep for screaming instead. Still, it could have been worse. We survived.

We saw tons of friends and family while we were out there. I was glad everyone was able to come meet the baby. By the end of the trip she’d had enough though, and her sleeping nosedived while her fussiness went through the roof. Even though we had a great trip, it’s definitely nice to be back home, back to a routine, and back to sleeping 10 hours through the night. (I know, we’re really lucky!)

Plus, hubby came home so the little nugget is happy to have dad back. And I’m happy to have a couple extra hands around the house. It’s a little difficult to get anything done when it’s just me and a needy baby!

We’re still in triple digits here, with no end to summer in sight. Though I’m over the heat, I’m still enjoying summer produce. Especially the delicious late summer peaches that are popping up everywhere. I’ve been buying some delicious ones from our fruit stand, but I’ve also been gifted a bunch from a few people’s trees. So I’ve had tons to experiment with.

I love fruit salsas and my last batch of ripe peaches arrived around the same time our jalapeno plant popped out a few peppers, so I thought it would be perfect to combine them and make this fresh summer snack.

I would love to spend two weeks on Cape Cod! That sounds amazing! It’s still hot here with no sign of cooling down. We are still heavily into watermelon and peaches too. That salsa looks like the perfect use of local peaches and how lucky that you have friends growing them for you!
