I figured out I was pregnant pretty early on. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was less than 2 weeks after it happened that I started feeling just a little bit off… and suspicious. I ended up taking a test a week or so later, on Labor Day, before heading out to what would have been a beer-filled day at the lake. You know, just in case. And sure enough… I had been right.

That TV show? I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant? That show cannot be real. Either that, or denial works in some pretty strong ways.

Anywho, I was scheduled to host a wine night approximately 4 nights later. The theme was French Wine Night and everyone was supposed to bring a different French wine for everyone to try. Though wine night was a once-a-month event, I’d come up with this theme because when you live in California, it’s hard to branch out beyond California wines. There are so many good ones!

Seeing as I was only a few weeks preggo and hadn’t even been to the doctor yet, I definitely wasn’t ready to tell anyone. But how the heck was I going to host wine night and not drink wine without raising suspicions?

A quick Google search and I discovered my savior– FRE Alcohol-Removed Wines! FRE wines go through a de-alcoholization process that leaves less than one half of one percent of alcohol in the wine. So they are perfect for pregnant ladies or anyone who can’t or doesn’t like to drink alcohol.

FRE Alcohol-Removed Wines

Before everyone came over for wine night, I filled my glass to the brim, hid the bottle– and no one was the wiser. It was sneaky, but it worked.

A couple months later, at Christmastime, after the cat was out of the bag, and after I had grown SO sick of drinking water, water and more water, Nick’s aunt picked up a bottle of FRE Sparkling Brut for me. We always have mimosas at Christmas– and, well, every family gathering pretty much– and she wanted me to be able to join in on the fun. It was such a nice treat, being able to celebrate with a mocktail along with everyone else.

And you know what? My mimosa tasted just like a “real” one– you can’t even tell the alcohol is missing in the sparkling wine. To make FRE, winemakers use a revolutionary spinning cone column to remove alcohol while preserving the fragrances and flavors of the wine. So the finished product is a delicious beverage with all of the characteristic aromas and flavors of wine, but with less than 0.5% alcohol of traditional wine.

I’ve only got a few weeks left– can you believe it??– but until then I’ll be enjoying life with a few more mocktails. Like these Ginger Peach Bellinis! In my first trimester, I pretty much lived on every ginger product ever created. Ginger beer, candied ginger, ginger tea and ginger snaps– anything to help fight my constant hangover feeling. So I thought fresh ginger in a mocktail for preggo ladies would be perfect! Plus, who doesn’t love fresh ginger. The spicy punch goes perfectly with the sweet peaches in this classic sparkling Bellini drink.

  • 1 cup sliced, peeled peaches (fresh or frozen, defrosted)

Instructions
  1. Using a blender, small food processor, or immersion blender (this is what I used), puree the peaches and ginger together until smooth.

I love how Fre gives women an opportunity to feel normal and enjoy mocktails while they’re pregnant! I only wish I hd known about this when I was pregnant. #client

Me too, Kelly! So much more fun to toast with FRE than with a glass of water. πŸ˜‰

I keep saying there is no way you could not know you are pregnant. How do those women go 9 months?! It doesn’t make sense! This alcohol free champagne would have saved me! Before telling anyone, I would still take a glass of wine when it was offered, and pretend to sip it, and go to the bathroom and dump out a little bit each time so it looked like I was drinking it. So sneaky of me! But hey, it worked! This would have been a lot easier. This drink sounds so delicious and refreshing!

LOL! That’s so funny! I had to go wine tasting in Chile and would put my glass down and pick up my friend’s glass (the only other person who knew). Later we found out that one other girl had noticed! But most people had no idea. πŸ˜‰

These mocktails are so fun, Jess! I’ve never heard of Fre before but that’s SO cool that it’s alcohol minus the actual alcohol! LOL. I must try these asap!

That’s so awesome to have an alcohol free option to party with while knocked up! πŸ™‚ They all sound delicious! We actually dedicate one of our kegs and taps in the kegerator to carbonated ginger and lemon water! It’s so refreshing and tasty!

I’m not pregnant, but I LOVE Fre wines! I actually have a glass pretty much every night. πŸ˜‰ Which is fine because alcohol removed, right? πŸ˜‰ Love this bellini!! Totally making this one soon! Cheers, girlfriend!

It was always so hard to hide the fact that I wasn’t drinking when I was early in my pregnancies. I wish I had known about Fre wines then! The flavors in this bellini look so good, and I love that you can still enjoy it even without the alcohol!
