Adventures in Gardening, Part II

May 15, 2011 by jessfuel 1 Comment

I’m happy to report that it’s looking like my gardening adventure is a success! So far, at least. In case you missed it, last week I planted basil, cilantro, rosemary and chive seeds. I also planted a small basil plant and a jalapeno plant.

This week, I added two more to my little garden. Heirloom tomato plants!

The tomato plants are growing like crazy, and get bigger every day. The pepper plant grew a little bit, and my basil plant is growing nicely, too. I’ve already pulled off a few leaves for salads and they replenished themselves within a couple days.

Herbs, Week 2:

We have sprouts!! Five of my cups started showing a little green this week.

On day 5, my 2 basil cups started (the two green leafy ones on the left). The package of basil seeds told me they would germinate at about 5 days, so these were just on time.

On day 6, one of my chive plants started. This was odd, because the package said earliest germination is 15 days. Strange, but I’ll take it!

On day 7, the second chive plant and 2 of my 4 cilantro plants sprouted! I have a feeling the rest of the cilantro will be up soon.

I’m not too worried about the rosemary. The package claims germination to be about 15 days, so hopefully that will start by week 3!

I hope my little guys keep growing. I’m actually kind of impressed I even managed to get sprouts. Let’s hope for a sunshiney week!
