Labor Day Recipes

August 29, 2013 by jessfuel 3 Comments

Labor Day weekend is almost here, and that means the last barbeques, pool parties, and fun of the summer! I’m not usually a fall lover, but since it’s been in the 100’s here since MAY, I am, for possibly the first time in my life, excited for fall to come! Goodbyeeeee, summer!

But before we kick summer out, let’s have one last bash, k? Here are some great recipes to get your party started.

Appetizers

LaborDayRecipes2

Beer Cheese Dip – One of the EASIEST (but most delicious) dip recipes in my arsenal. It doesn’t need an oven, which makes it great for traveling to potlucks!

Salsa Fresca – Summer tomatoes won’t last much longer, so you better enjoy their flavors while you can!

Chipotle Sausage Stuffed Jalapenos – If your garden is anything like mine, you have a ridiculous number of jalapenos ready to be picked. But what to do with them? Try this!

Main Dishes

LaborDayRecipes4

Grilled Grouper with Basil-Lime Pistou – A great way to use up another summer favorite– basil! Plus, the grilled fish is a nice change from the burgers you’ve been cooking up all summer.

Teriyaki Pineapple Turkey Burgers – If you want to stick with burgers, check out this sweet ‘n savory creative version!

Buffalo Chicken Burgers – Or these. Because really, you can’t go wrong with buffalo chicken.

Key West Grilled Chicken Skewers – These are one of my favorite things to grill– the flavors are amazing!

Carne Asada – If you’re a little more daring on the grill, check out this recipe for carne asada. The cilantro-garlic-lime marinade is to die for.

Grilled Pork Chops with Summer Salsa – One last hurrah for summer fruit!

Side Dishes

LaborDayRecipes3

Buffalo & Blue Potato Salad – A unique twist on potato salad everyone will love!

Asian Slaw – This mayo-less slaw and sweet and tangy, cool and crisp. My favorite slaw of all time!

Buffalo Chicken Pasta Salad – Hot sauce, blue cheese and celery… you can’t go wrong with this pasta salad.

Honey Dijon Potato Salad – Another mayo-less side, great for warm outdoor parties.

Okra, Corn and Black-Eyed Pea Salad – I have SO much okra growing in my garden right now that I had to include this one. A great way to use it up!

Desserts

LaborDayRecipes1

Lemon Cream Cheese Bars – Lighter, fruity desserts are great for the last few dog days of summer.

Strawberry Lemon Bars – As soon as winter and fall hit, we’ll be back to flavorless berries. Scoop up the last of the summer berries and make these bars!

White Chocolate S’mores Gooey Cake Bars – S’mores are a summer staple, but here’s a new way to eat them!

Belgian Wit Beer Cookies – Holiday weekends wouldn’t be complete without beer… how about beer in your cookies??

Have a safe and delicious holiday weekend!

Hope you had a GREAT holiday weekend.
